What We’re Working On
Our Ongoing Efforts
The West 50s Neighborhood Association is actively working on these critical issues affecting our community.
Safety
Risks Posed by E-Vehicles
The rapid expansion of e-bikes, e-scooters, and other e-vehicles has made our streets more dangerous. We are working with the local precinct, community board, and elected officials to improve safety for all.
Development
Loss of Neighborhood Character & Environmental Concerns
We are fighting to protect the residential and historic character of the West 50s against commercial overdevelopment, including the proposed supertall hotel replacing 1710 Broadway.
Preservation
Historic Preservation
From its inception, the Association has pursued landmark designations for over 20 historically and architecturally significant buildings on West 54th–56th Streets, successfully achieving status for five buildings.
Community
Quality of Life
We address a broad range of quality-of-life issues: crime, noise pollution, trash, digital signage, green spaces, graffiti, homelessness, illegal vendors, and more — making the West 50s a better place to live.
